Mature Whisky
Mature whisky found in chain stores are typically aged between 3 and 17 from household brands, but they often miss the traditional flavours of scotch whisky. Notably, our range is extensive of all ages and types of whisky. As such, you can expect the following flavours:
3-Year Whisky: Strong, traditional spirit taste
8-Year Whisky: Oaky from the cask, slightly richer and fruiter
10-Year Whisky: Smooth, extremely floral with spicy or zesty notes
15-Year Whisky: Well-balanced, hints of vanilla and sweeter ingredients
16+ Whisky: Whiskies older than 15 years showcase an abundance of flavours from sweet caramel to spicy cinnamon, fresh fruit to peaty or nutty notes.
As stipulated by the law, it is well-established that spirits must be matured for a minimum of three years in an oak cask before they are legalised scotch whisky. Only then can they be sold.
By law, whisky must be matured for a minimum of three years. If a bottle has an age statement of ‘18 years’, this means it is at least 18 years old. The maturation period is determined by the distillery based on the ideal taste.
No, younger whiskies are not lower in quality. While aged whiskies are typically more expensive and grandiose, the overall quality depends on the ingredients and production process.
While the cask impacts the overall flavour, 18-year-old whisky offers these common flavours:
- Fresh and dried fruits
- Peat and smoke
- Spicy and nutty undertones
