Bottle Review
The last time I sipped Clynelish Tyrell. Nice. But now we’re jumping to the smoky end of the map with Lagavulin House Lannister. If you like big, bold Islay peat, this is the one in the Game of Thrones set whisky that roars the loudest – very on-brand for the lions of King’s Landing.

First Sniff
The cork pops, smoke leaps out. No messing. I get:
-
Bonfire ash – like the morning after fireworks night.
-
Sweet bacon – maple-glazed stuff.
-
Lemon peel – a quick zing hiding under the smoke.
Nose in the glass, I’m already half in love.
Straight-Up Taste (Plain Words Only)
Peat hits first, shocker. Then:
-
Sweet toffee – stops the smoke from being harsh.
-
Peppery spice – wakes the tongue.
-
Long salty finish – like sea spray on the harbour wall.
No fancy talk needed. It’s peaty, sweet and salty – the Islay triangle done right.

Bottle | Style | ABV | My Score | One-Word Vibe |
---|---|---|---|---|
Lagavulin Lannister | Heavy peat | 46 % | 8.5 | Fiery |
Clynelish Tyrell | Light, coastal | 51.2 % | 7.5 | Fresh |
Talisker Greyjoy | Briny pepper | 45.8 % | 7.0 | Stormy |
Oban Night’s Watch | Rich malt | 43 % | 7.8 | Dark |
Food Pairing? Keep It Simple
-
Smoked cheddar – matches the peat.
-
Dark chocolate – 70 % cocoa knocks back the sweetness.
-
Plain salted crisps – budget, but weirdly perfect.
Good to Know
-
Water play: A few drops soften the smoke and bring out vanilla.
-
Ice: I wouldn’t. Mutes the peat punch.
-
Shelf life once opened: About a year before it dulls – but let’s be real, the bottle won’t last that long.
Should You Buy the Bottle or the Set?
If peat is your thing, the single bottle is worth grabbing before stocks dry up. But the best value is still the full Game of Thrones whisky set – you get variety and a built-in tasting party.
Final Sip
Lagavulin House Lannister is bold, smoky, and a bit posh – much like the family crest on the label. It’s the clear heavyweight in the Game of Thrones single malt whisky line-up. I’m giving it 8.5 / 10 because it nails the Islay profile without losing balance.
