Our English whisky is matured in American oak, ex-bourbon and sherry casks for a minimum of three years before being tested by experts. Many distilleries follow traditional production methods and source local ingredients, taking inspiration from Scotland.
English Malt Whisky
English malt whisky is much sweeter than its neighbours, those being Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Upon each sip, you will find vanilla and fruity notes with a malt finish. Even the oldest English whiskies retain their sweet taste.
To balance the flavours, a salty seafood platter or steak is the perfect pairing. In addition, a sweet Victoria sponge cake makes for a wonderfully traditional dessert. For any connoisseur who likes to experiment with their spirits, we certainly recommend indulging in English malt whisky.
English whisky is generally made with ingredients such as barley and water, but also uses other grains like rye and oats. The spirit is distilled to a maximum of 94.8% of alcohol and is aged for a maximum of 3 years.
In England there are now 55 distilleries. Some of the major ones include Cotswold Distillery, The Lakes Distillery, Samuel Gulliver & Co and The Oxford Artisan Distillery. Princetown Distillers is currently the largest whisky distillery in England.
The taste of English whisky can differ depending on the type of grain used, the distillation process and the type of cask used for maturation. Typically English Whiskies are lighter in comparison to scotch. They usually have fruitier notes of apple and pear.
