Everything you need to know about Aberfeldy Distillery

A brief History

Aberfeldy, Highlands Region, Scotland. Founded in 1896

The Golden Dram of the Highlands

Let me paint you a scene: golden barley fields, rolling Highland hills, and the soft shimmer of the River Tay in the background. That’s Aberfeldy, a distillery rooted in warmth, heritage, and just the right amount of Highland swagger. Built in 1898 by the Dewar family — yes, that Dewar family — this distillery has been quietly crafting rich, honeyed whisky for over a century.

You’ll find Aberfeldy on the southern edge of the Scottish Highlands, not far from Pitlochry, in the charming town of the same name. While it’s maybe best known as the heart of Dewar’s blended Scotch, Aberfeldy single malts are an absolute hidden gem. They’re beautifully rounded, mellow, and dangerously easy to drink — the kind of whisky you could sip by a fire or sneak into a hip flask for a Highland hike (don’t tell anyone I said that).

But here's the kicker: the water comes from the Pitilie Burn, a stream that flows over deposits of actual gold. So yes, they really do call it the “Golden Dram”.

Aberfeldy whiskies are all about smooth textures, bright fruit, and a signature honeyed sweetness that has fans coming back bottle after bottle. This is a whisky that plays nice — elegant, balanced, and full of subtle complexity.

Aberfeldy is renowned for its soft, smooth and approachable single malt whiskies. The distillery is particularly known for its honeyed character, gentle spices, and light fruitiness. Key flavour characteristics include:

  • Floral honey and creamy vanilla
