A brief History
Arbikie, Highlands Region, Scotland. Founded in 2013.
Grain to Glass by the Sea
If whisky were a landscape, Arbikie would be a patchwork of golden fields meeting storm‑kissed coastline. Founded in 2013 by the Stirling family, Arbikie is not your average distillery. It sits on a large working farm in Angus, growing many of the raw ingredients it uses—barley, peas, potatoes, rye—and draws its water from its own sources. Every step is done on the estate: planting, harvesting, distilling, maturing, even bottling.
They’re known for being bold: bringing back Rye whisky to Scotland after over a century; creating gin and vodka that are “climate positive”; and doing everything with sustainability in mind. The style they’re building is Highland whisky with a salty coastal sharpness, farm sweetness, and experimental edge. If you ask me, Arbikie feels like whisky made by people who love the land just as much as the spirit.

Arbikie is renowned for its field‑to‑bottle single malt whisky and spirits. The distillery is particularly known for its estate‑grown crops and experimental approach, which bring texture, freshness, and layered flavour. Key flavour characteristics include:
• Ripe orchard notes—pear, apple—offset by soft barley sweetness
• Warming vanilla and honey tones from cask maturation
• Gentle spice and oakwood presence, especially in older or rye expressions
• Occasionally subtle coastal influence—sea air, salt—especially when barley fields meet the sea

Here are some of the Arbikie whiskies and spirits people speak about most:
-
Arbikie Highland Rye – Sweden’s first rye whisky in over 100 years; bold rye influence, grain character
-
Estate Single Malt (once matured enough) – their layout promises vintage, field‑tagged malt whiskies in future releases
-
Gin & Vodka (Nàdar, etc.) – while not whisky, helps reveal their style: farm‑grown, earthy, flavour honest
Note: Their whisky releases are relatively rare so far, since they’re ageing spirit under strict timelines and with care.

Ownership & History
Arbikie is independently family owned. The Stirling family have farmed the estate for generations, and brothers John, Iain, and David are the current owners. Though established in 2013, the idea draws on older roots—records suggest whisky distilling in that area goes back centuries, and the estate itself has been in the Stirling family’s hands for decades. Their modern distillery is built with long‑term thinking: sustainability, field‑by‑field provenance, reintroduction of rye whisky, and high environmental standards.
