A brief History

Armorik, France. Founded in 1900

Armorik isn’t just a French whisky — it’s a whisky with a sense of place. Made in Lannion, Brittany, by the Warenghem Distillery, Armorik carries the wind, rain, sea air and stone of the Breton coast straight into your glass.

The Warenghem family has been around since 1900, though they started off making herbal liqueurs and local spirits. It wasn’t until the 1980s that they turned their attention to whisky, driven by a desire to create something truly Breton. In 1983, they produced a blend, and by 1998, Armorik became their first single malt.

Everything’s done in-house: brewing, fermentation, distilling, ageing and bottling — right down to sourcing water from their own granite spring, Rest Avel. Armorik captures what makes Brittany so unique: a cool, humid coastal climate perfect for ageing whisky slowly, gracefully, and with character.

Armorik has grown from an ambitious side project into France’s flagship single malt, earning global recognition while staying independent and rooted in its identity. If you like Scotch but fancy something with a fresh point of view, Armorik’s well worth exploring.

Flavour Profile:

Peaty / Smoky

Fruity
Oaky / Woody

Armorik is known for its balanced, gently complex single malts. Some lean fruity and fresh with crisp apple, pear and citrus. Others — especially those matured in sherry or local oak — bring in spice, dried fruit and richness. In peated editions, like Yeun Elez, there’s a clear smoky edge, but never overpowering.

Armorik is renowned for its fragrant, textured, and well-aged single malt whiskies. The distillery has explored a range of cask finishes — from sherry to Breton oak — giving depth and variety to their releases. Key flavour characteristics include:

  • Gentle vanilla and soft spice

  • Oak tannins and wood resin

  • Hints of dried fruit and light peat

  • A balanced mouthfeel with coastal freshness
