A brief History
Auchroisk, Speyside Region, Scotland. Founded in 1974
Auchroisk sits quietly in Speyside, but it plays a loud role behind the scenes. Built in the early 1970s to supply malt for J&B blends, Auchroisk was never meant to be a whisky star — and yet, over time, it has earned a small but passionate following. The distillery was completed in 1974 after its water source, Dorie’s Well, proved suitable for whisky production. For decades, most of its output has gone into blends rather than bottles bearing its own name.
What makes Auchroisk intriguing is how it treads the line between industrial strength and single malt nuance. It leans toward nuttiness, spice and malt character, yet remains flexible depending on casks and contracts. Over the years, Auchroisk has been bottled under different names — “The Singleton of Auchroisk,” “Flora & Fauna,” or special limited editions — making its standalone expressions rare and collectible.

Auchroisk is known for producing a robust, characterful Speyside spirit. Because of its production style — fast mashing, short fermentation, and a bit of “singed” carry‑over from the stills — the new make can carry a toasted, nutty edge. With ageing, that softens into honeyed malt, dried fruits, wood spice and gentle oak.
In its single malt bottlings, you’ll often find:
-
Nut and toasted cereal notes
-
Honey sweetness and vanilla
-
Dried fruit influence when sherry or secondary casks are used
-
Oak spice, bark, or woody character
