A brief History
Balblair, Highlands Region, Scotland. Founded in 1790
Time in Every Drop
There’s something timeless about Balblair. Nestled in Edderton, near the Dornoch Firth in the northern Highlands, this distillery has been around since 1790, making it one of Scotland’s oldest still-operating whisky makers. But age alone doesn’t define Balblair—the spirit here is about patience, heritage, and whisky that feels rooted in place.
For most of its history, Balblair was a quiet workhorse, producing malt for blends. That changed in recent decades, when single malt bottlings finally took the spotlight. Once known for its vintage releases (bottled by year, like fine wine), Balblair now focuses on age statements—yet still retains its hallmark: elegant, Highland fruitiness with layers of oak and spice.
Balblair is owned by Inver House Distillers, part of International Beverage Holdings. Its reputation has quietly grown, not through flash or noise, but by letting the whisky speak for itself: bright fruit, honey sweetness, and a graceful balance that feels very “Highland.”
