A brief History
Basil Hayden, Kentucky Region, USA. Founded in 1992.
Bourbon with a Gentle Kick
Basil Hayden isn't your typical punchy bourbon — it’s more like bourbon in a velvet jacket. Smooth, a bit spicy, and unmistakably refined, it’s designed to appeal to folks who want all the flavour but none of the palate-busting heat. Originally launched in 1992 by Booker Noe (yes, of the Beam family), it was part of the Small Batch Collection alongside Knob Creek, Baker’s, and Booker’s. What made Basil Hayden different? Its higher rye content and softer approach.
The name pays tribute to Basil Hayden Sr., a distiller from the late 1700s who was blending rye into his bourbon before it was cool. That rye spice is still a signature of the bottle today — but balanced by light oak, vanilla, and soft fruit. For whisky drinkers used to Speyside or Lowland Scotch, Basil Hayden is a lovely first dip into the American side of things. Not too bold, not too boring — just right.

A clean, dry finish with soft spice
It’s not the loudest bourbon in the room, but it definitely holds its own — think conversation, not confrontation.
