A brief History
Bells, Scotland. Founded in 1851
A True British Favourite
If there’s one name that rings out clearly across pubs, lounges, and kitchen cupboards up and down the UK, it’s Bell’s. For many, it’s the first whisky they ever tasted—or the one they always go back to. Smooth, accessible, and deeply familiar, Bell’s Blended Scotch Whisky is a staple for good reason.
The brand was originally created by Arthur Bell, a humble tea and whisky merchant from Perth, back in the 1850s. What made Bell different? He believed that blending whiskies should be about consistency—something that tasted the same and felt familiar every time. And it worked. Bell’s became one of the best-selling whiskies in the UK throughout the 20th century.
Though Bell’s is a blend, its heart is rooted in Blair Athol single malt from the Highlands, giving it that nutty, malty signature. The brand is now owned by Diageo, and while it might not get the glitzy marketing treatment some other whiskies do, Bell’s continues to hold a loyal place in homes and bars across Britain.
