Established in 2018 as a pilot site by Halewood Artisanal Spirits (the team behind the John Crabbie & Co brand), the distillery was created while their larger Bonnington project was still under construction.
What makes it intriguing for whisky lovers in the UK is how short‑lived it was — production began in December 2018, filled only 39 casks by 2019, and was never intended for mass output. Because of that, Chain Pier releases are rare and carry a bit of “first‑steps in Edinburgh whisky” appeal. Think of it as a whisper in the Lowlands rather than the roar of a full‑scale distillery.
