A brief History

Clydeside, Lowlands Region, Scotland. Founded in 2017.

Clydeside Distillery is one of the newer additions to Scotland’s whisky scene, sitting right on the banks of the River Clyde in Glasgow. It opened in 2017, bringing single malt production back into a part of the city that was once heavily tied to trade and shipbuilding.

The distillery is located in the historic Pumphouse building, which used to control water levels for the Queen’s Dock. That link to Glasgow’s industrial past is a big part of its identity. While the setting is historic, the distillery itself is modern, built to produce a clean and consistent style of whisky.

Clydeside was created with a clear aim: produce a light, approachable Lowland-style single malt that appeals to both new and experienced whisky drinkers. It’s not trying to compete with heavily peated or heavily sherried whiskies — instead, it focuses on clarity and balance.

Taste Profile

Malty / Cereal Fruity Sweet

Clydeside whiskies are typically light and fresh. You’ll often notice orchard fruit like apple and pear, followed by honey sweetness and a soft malt base.

The oak influence is gentle, adding a touch of vanilla without overpowering the whisky. There’s no peat, and the overall style is clean and easy to drink — very much in line with traditional Lowland character.

The distillery building is a restored dockside pumphouse, linking the site to Glasgow’s maritime and shipbuilding heritage. It was developed by Morrison Glasgow Distillers, a company with longstanding ties to the Scotch whisky trade.

Clydeside is part of the revival of distilling in Glasgow, a city that historically had a major role in whisky blending and export rather than production.
