A brief History

Compass Box, London. Founded in 2000

Blending with Sould: Whisky that Thinks Outside the Cask

Some whisky stories begin with a barley field and end in a barrel. Compass Box’s story starts with an idea — that blending whisky can be an art form just as complex and bold as single malt distilling.

Founded in 2000 by American ex-marketing man turned whisky renegade, John Glaser, Compass Box turned the traditional Scotch world slightly sideways. Instead of focusing on one distillery, they source high-quality malt and grain whiskies from across Scotland and blend them to create expressions that are modern, bold, and surprisingly drinkable.

This isn’t your granddad’s blend. Whether it’s the smoky thrill of Peat Monster or the rich grain silk of Hedonism, Compass Box bottles come with personality, transparency, and that rare thing in whisky — originality.

Flavour Profile:

Oaky / Woody

Fruity
Spicy

Compass Box is renowned for its layered, expressive, and contemporary Scotch whiskies. Their blends often explore cask finishes, toasted oak, and unusual combinations of flavours that balance sweet, spicy, and elegant wood notes.

Most Popular Compass Box Bottles

  • Hedonism – Their first release and still a classic; a blended grain whisky that’s creamy, elegant and smooth.

  • Flaming Heart -  Full of thick, fiery, smoky flavours and overlaid with oaky depth and a herbaceous, spicy freshness born of a substantial Caol Ila component, this is far from a one-trick pony.

  • The Spice Tree – Spicy, woody and aromatic. Originally controversial due to its custom French oak staves, now a staple.

  • Limited Editions - A series honouring previous styles of famous blends from decades past.
