A brief History
Deanston, Highlands Region, Scotland. Founded in 1785.
Deanston Distillery is one of those places that blends history, innovation, and a bit of rugged Scottish charm all in one spot. Sitting quietly near the small town of Doune in the Scottish Highlands, the distillery is housed inside a former cotton mill dating back to 1785. That’s right — before a single drop of whisky ever flowed here, this place was spinning thread and fabric.
It wasn’t until 1965, after the mill shut down, that the site was transformed into a working distillery. Since then, Deanston has been carving out a name for itself in the whisky world with a focus on craft, sustainability, and good honest flavour. They even generate their own electricity from the River Teith running past their doorstep — how cool is that?
Deanston whiskies have a natural, unfiltered feel to them. They’re easy to drink, packed with character, and made with a no-nonsense attitude that’s easy to appreciate. Whether you’re popping in for a tour or pouring a dram at home, there’s something grounded and genuine about Deanston.
