A brief History
Douglas Laing, Scotland. Founded in 1948.
Douglas Laing is a well-established independent Scotch whisky bottler, based in Glasgow, with roots going back to 1948. It was founded by Fred Douglas Laing, and the company has remained family-run, now led by the next generation.
Unlike distilleries, Douglas Laing doesn’t produce its own spirit (with the exception of its more recent involvement in distilling). Instead, it sources casks from across Scotland and bottles them under its own labels.
What makes the company stand out is its structured approach to blending and bottling. It has built a strong identity through its “Remarkable Regional Malts” range — whiskies designed to represent specific Scotch regions — alongside a steady output of single cask releases.
In recent years, the company has also moved into distilling through ownership of Strathearn Distillery, linking its bottling expertise with production.

Because Douglas Laing works with multiple distilleries, the flavour profile varies depending on the bottling. However, many of its whiskies aim to highlight regional character.
Blended malts like Big Peat (Islay) tend to be smoky and coastal, while others like Scallywag (Speyside) lean towards fruit and sweetness. Single cask releases can show a wide range of styles depending on the source distillery and cask type.
