A brief History
Dufftown, Speyside Region, Scotland. Founded in 1895.
From Farming Roots to Speyside Staples
You’ll find Dufftown Distillery nestled deep in the whisky-soaked heart of Speyside – and no, that’s not a poetic exaggeration. The town of Dufftown is often referred to as the whisky capital of the world, and for good reason. The distillery itself has been part of the scenery since 1895, though its roots go even further back – the site was originally a mill. It was converted into a working distillery by Peter Mackenzie and a few local chaps who saw a better use for water than grinding oats.
Now owned by Diageo, Dufftown has become one of the busiest distilleries in Scotland, helping churn out millions of litres of spirit each year. While it doesn’t always hog the spotlight with flashy marketing, Dufftown’s single malts are known for their easy-drinking nature and gentle Speyside charm. You might know it best from The Singleton of Dufftown – its flagship single malt that’s enjoyed by whisky newcomers and seasoned sippers alike.
If you’re after a whisky that’s mellow, welcoming, and quietly confident, Dufftown might just be your next go-to bottle.

If you’re in the area though, Dufftown town itself is home to several other distilleries with visitor centres – so it’s still a fantastic whisky destination.
