Born in the late 1800s and revived in full swing over the last couple decades, Four Roses has a bit of an underdog story. It was once one of the best-selling bourbons in the US, before being banished to overseas markets for decades. Now? It’s back where it belongs, on backbars across the world and in the hands of folks who really appreciate smooth, balanced, and characterful bourbon.
The distillery is based in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky – the heartland of American whiskey – and it does things a little differently. It uses two mashbills and five yeast strains, which, if you do the maths, means ten possible bourbon recipes. That gives Four Roses a lot of blending flexibility, and it’s a big reason why their bourbons manage to feel both consistent and nuanced. The bourbon itself is mellow, floral, and just sweet enough – not too fiery, but not bland either. It’s like bourbon with good manners.

Visitor Centre
Yes – Four Roses has a charming visitor centre at its main distillery in Lawrenceburg, as well as another at the bottling site in Cox’s Creek. Tours typically include a walk through the distillery, a look at the fermentation process, and a tasting of a few expressions.
