A brief History
Glenlossie, Speyside Region, Scotland. Founded in 1876.
Glenlossie is one of those distilleries you’ve probably tasted without ever realising it. Quiet, steady, and slightly under the radar, it’s been producing Speyside whisky since 1876, tucked just outside Elgin. It doesn’t shout, it doesn’t chase trends, and it certainly doesn’t chase headlines. Instead, it does one thing very well: it makes clean, reliable malt whisky that plays a crucial role in some of Scotland’s biggest blends.
Founded by John Duff, Glenlossie arrived during a period when Speyside was booming with new distilleries. Duff knew the land, the water, and the style that worked. The result was a light, fruity spirit designed to age gracefully rather than overpower. That approach has barely changed.
Most of Glenlossie’s production goes straight into blends like Haig and other Diageo staples. Official single malt releases are rare, which gives the distillery a slightly cult status among whisky fans. When you do find a Glenlossie bottled on its own, it feels like you’ve stumbled across a backstage pass.
I like Glenlossie because it doesn’t try to impress you. It just gets on with the job, year after year, quietly shaping the whisky you already know and drink.

| Fruity | Malty / Cereal | Sweet |
Glenlossie whiskies are light, clean, and very Speyside in character. Expect fresh orchard fruit at the front, followed by gentle honeyed sweetness and soft malt notes. The oak influence is usually subtle, adding vanilla rather than spice. There’s no smoke here and no heaviness. It’s a whisky that stays bright and easy, with a smooth finish that doesn’t linger too long but leaves you wanting another sip.

Most Popular Glenlossie Bottles
Glenlossie doesn’t have a big core range, so these tend to appear as limited or independent releases.
Notable bottlings
-
Glenlossie 10 Year Old Flora & Fauna
Light and approachable. Apple, malt, and gentle sweetness. The most recognisable official release. -
Independent Bottler Releases (12–25 Year Old)
Often from refill bourbon or hogshead casks. These show more depth with age while keeping the distillery’s clean style. -
Rare Older Single Cask Editions
Harder to find, but they can be excellent. Expect more honey, soft oak, and rounded fruit rather than bold flavours.
