A brief History
Glenturret, Highlands Region, Scotland. Founded in 1763.
Glenturret feels different the moment you arrive. It’s not a huge industrial site tucked behind fences. It looks more like an old farm steading beside the River Turret, low stone buildings, quiet air, and a pace that makes you slow down without thinking about it.
Often described as Scotland’s oldest working distillery, Glenturret traces its legal roots back to 1763. That’s early. Long before visitor centres and branded merchandise, this was simply a small rural distillery making spirit the old-fashioned way. And, oddly enough, it still kind of is.
Production here remains small and hands-on. Traditional methods, slower runs, and a focus on character over volume. I like that. It feels human. You can taste the care.
For years, most people only knew Glenturret because it supplied malt for The Famous Grouse. Recently though, it’s stepped forward as a single malt in its own right, with a cleaner look, smarter packaging, and a range that’s genuinely worth exploring.
If you want whisky with a bit of history and a bit of charm, this place delivers both.

Glenturret whiskies are typically soft, rounded, and gently sweet. You’ll often find honey and vanilla first, followed by fresh fruit — apples, light citrus — and a clean malt backbone. Oak adds structure with mild spice rather than heaviness.
It’s not a big, bold dram. It’s calm and balanced. The kind you pour when you want something easy but still interesting enough to pay attention to.
