A brief History
Hell's Stone, London. Founded in 2018.
Hell's Stone is a Cornish whisky brand produced by Pocketful of Stones Distillery in Penzance, Cornwall. Founded in 2016 by a group of hospitality professionals who swapped London bars for the Cornish coast, the distillery has become known for producing spirits inspired by Cornwall's history, landscape and folklore.
Unlike many whisky producers, Hell's Stone starts life as a carefully crafted beer. The beer is distilled through the distillery's handmade copper pot still, known as Jackson, before being matured in oak casks near St Michael's Mount on Cornwall's rugged coastline. This process helps create a whisky with a distinctive coastal character.
The name comes from a Cornish legend involving St Michael, a dragon and a fiery stone that fell from the sky near the town of Helston. Today, Hell's Stone has become one of Cornwall's best-known whisky brands and represents the growing English whisky movement.
