Everything you need to know about Hellyers Distillery

A brief History

Hellyers, Australia. Founded in 1997.

Hellyers Road is one of the pioneers of modern Australian whisky. Located on Tasmania's rugged north-west coast near Burnie, the distillery was founded in 1997 by a group of local dairy farmers who believed the region's clean water, cool climate and fertile land could produce world-class single malt whisky.

The distillery takes its name from Henry Hellyer, an explorer and surveyor who mapped much of north-west Tasmania during the 1820s. What started as a diversification project for a dairy co-operative quickly became one of Australia's most important whisky success stories. The first spirit was distilled in 1999, and Hellyers Road went on to become Australia's largest single malt whisky distillery for more than two decades.

Today, Hellyers Road is recognised around the world for its award-winning single malts. The distillery produces a wide range of expressions, from approachable everyday drams to rare aged releases, helping establish Tasmania as one of the leading whisky-producing regions outside Scotland.
