A brief History

Haig Whisky at the Cameronbridge Distillery, Scotland. Founded in 17th Century.

Haig is one of the oldest names in Scotch whisky. Not a small craft distillery tucked into the hills, but a historic brand that helped shape the modern blended Scotch market. The Haig family were distilling as far back as the 17th century, and by the 1800s they were major players in the industry.

The heart of Haig’s production became Cameronbridge Distillery in Fife, one of Scotland’s earliest grain distilleries. That grain whisky formed the backbone of many blends, including Haig’s own expressions.

For decades, bottles like Haig Gold Label and the distinctive Haig Dimple were common sights in British homes. Then the brand quietened down. In recent years, it returned with Haig Club, a modern, square blue bottle aimed at a new audience.

What’s interesting about Haig is that it bridges old and new Scotch. Traditional grain roots. Modern branding. Blended whisky at its core.

Taste Profile

Oaky / Woody

Sweet Malty / Cereal

Haig’s style leans on smoothness and approachability. Grain whisky gives a lighter body, with vanilla and caramel sweetness up front. There’s soft oak spice underneath and a gentle cereal note running through the middle.

You won’t find peat smoke here. It’s designed to be easy, clean, and mixable. Older Haig expressions like Dimple show more richness, with deeper toffee and spice from longer ageing.

If you want a whisky that doesn’t fight back, Haig fits that brief.
