Everything you need to know about Linkwood Distillery

A brief History
Linkwood, Speyside Region, Scotland. Founded in 1821.
Linkwood is one of Speyside’s quiet craftsmen. Founded in 1821 on the outskirts of Elgin, it has spent most of its life producing malt for blending rather than chasing the spotlight as a single malt brand. That might explain why it remains something of an insider’s distillery.
Walk past it and you wouldn’t know it supplies character and elegance to major Scotch blends. Taste it properly, though, and you realise why blenders prize it. Linkwood produces a delicate, floral spirit with real structure underneath.
For decades, official bottlings were scarce outside the Flora & Fauna range. Independent bottlers have done much of the work showcasing what Linkwood can do — particularly in refill bourbon casks where its natural fruit and floral notes shine.
It’s not loud. It doesn’t need to be. Linkwood is about precision and balance.

Linkwood is typically light and elegant. Orchard fruits — especially apple and pear — sit at the forefront, backed by honeyed sweetness and soft vanilla. The malt character is clean and slightly biscuity, giving the whisky a gentle backbone.
There’s no peat here. Oak influence tends to be subtle, adding structure rather than spice. The finish is medium-length, smooth, and refined.
It’s the kind of Speyside malt that rewards attention rather than demands it.

Distillery Facts
Overview & History
Linkwood Distillery is located in Elgin, Speyside, and was founded in 1821 by Peter Brown. It has long been regarded as a technically precise and consistent malt producer.
In the 1970s, a second, more modern distillery building (Linkwood B) was constructed adjacent to the original site (Linkwood A). For many years, both operated in parallel, though production has since been consolidated.
Today, Linkwood is owned by Diageo and remains primarily a blending malt rather than a heavily marketed standalone single malt.
