A brief History
Longmorn, Speyside Region, Scotland. Founded in 1894.
Longmorn has a quiet reputation among people who know their Speyside whisky. It doesn’t shout. It doesn’t flood the market with endless editions. But ask blenders and independent bottlers what they think of Longmorn, and the respect is immediate.
Founded in 1894 by John Duff, just south of Elgin, Longmorn was built with serious intent from the beginning. The distillery quickly gained a name for producing rich, structured spirit — something blenders valued for adding depth and body. For decades, much of its output disappeared into blends, which partly explains why it remains less visible than some Speyside neighbours.
When bottled as a single malt, though, Longmorn shows weight and complexity. It’s fruit-led, but not light. Sweet, but not simple.
This is Speyside with backbone.

Fruity |
Rich / Chocolatey | Oaky / Woody |
Longmorn typically delivers a dense, fruity profile. Orchard fruit appears first, followed by richer notes of dried fruit and subtle cocoa, especially in sherry-matured expressions.
There’s a creamy texture running through the spirit, supported by vanilla and firm oak structure. The finish often carries spice and sweetness in equal measure.
There’s no peat influence in the core style. The focus is fruit depth, weight, and balance.

Distillery Facts
Overview & History
Longmorn Distillery is located south of Elgin in Speyside and was founded in 1894 by John Duff. Duff’s ambition was to create a high-quality malt for blending and export, and Longmorn quickly developed a reputation for producing a rich, characterful spirit.
The distillery is now owned by Chivas Brothers (Pernod Ricard) and remains a key component in premium blended Scotch, particularly within the Chivas Regal portfolio.
Although historically more prominent in blends than as a single malt brand, Longmorn has increasingly received recognition as a standalone malt.
Production
-
Spirit Type: Single malt Scotch whisky
-
Stills: Eight copper pot stills
-
Water Source: Local springs near Elgin
-
Cask Policy: Primarily ex-bourbon with sherry cask components in selected releases
-
Primary Use: Blending stock for Chivas Regal
Longmorn produces a relatively weighty Speyside spirit, with enough body to carry both bourbon and sherry maturation effectively.

-
Medium to full-bodied

Significance
Longmorn is often described within the industry as a “blender’s malt” — prized for balance, richness, and structural integrity.
Its importance lies less in branding visibility and more in technical contribution to high-end blends. Among enthusiasts, it has gained a reputation as an underrated Speyside distillery capable of producing elegant yet substantial single malts.
