A brief History
Midleton, Ireland. Founded in 1975.
Midleton Distillery is the powerhouse of modern Irish whiskey. If you’ve enjoyed Jameson, Redbreast, Green Spot, Powers, or Midleton Very Rare, chances are the spirit was distilled here.
Located in County Cork, the distillery opened in its modern form in 1975 to bring several historic Irish whiskey brands together under one roof. The original Midleton distillery site dates back to the early 1800s, but the newer complex was built to support the revival of Irish whiskey after decades of decline.
What makes Midleton unusual is its scale and flexibility. The distillery produces single pot still whiskey, single malt, grain whiskey, and blends, giving it the ability to supply a wide range of styles from one location.
Today, Midleton stands at the centre of Ireland’s whiskey renaissance, producing some of the country’s most famous and respected spirits.

Midleton whiskies are typically smooth and balanced, reflecting the traditional triple-distilled Irish style. Fruit and honeyed sweetness appear early, followed by gentle spice from the pot still component and soft vanilla from oak maturation.
Single pot still whiskies such as Redbreast and Green Spot often show richer spice and texture, while grain whiskey contributes smoothness and sweetness to blended expressions like Jameson.
The result is a style known for its approachability and balance rather than heavy peat or aggressive oak.

Overview & History
Midleton Distillery is located in County Cork, Ireland, and is one of the most important whiskey production sites in the world. The original Old Midleton Distillery was founded in 1825 and operated until the 1970s.
In 1975, Irish Distillers built the New Midleton Distillery next to the historic site, consolidating production from several Irish distilleries into one modern facility. Today, Midleton is the primary production centre for many of Ireland’s best-known whiskey brands.
The site remains one of the largest and most technologically advanced whiskey distilleries in operation.
