A brief History
Nantou, Taiwan. Founded in 2008.
Nantou Distillery is one of Taiwan’s key whisky producers and the home of Omar Single Malt Whisky. Located in Nantou County in central Taiwan, the distillery is operated by the state-owned Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation (TTL).
The facility originally focused on producing other spirits before whisky production began in 2008. Since then, Nantou has steadily built a reputation for producing rich and expressive whiskies that reflect Taiwan’s warm climate.
Like other Taiwanese whisky producers, Nantou benefits from faster maturation due to higher temperatures and humidity. This allows whisky to develop strong cask influence and flavour complexity in a shorter period of time compared with cooler regions like Scotland.
Today, Nantou’s Omar whisky range has gained recognition among whisky enthusiasts looking to explore Asian whisky beyond the well-known Japanese distilleries.

Nantou whiskies often show bright fruit flavours supported by honeyed sweetness and noticeable oak influence. The warmer Taiwanese climate encourages strong interaction between spirit and wood, which can give the whisky a rich texture even at relatively young ages.
Citrus and tropical fruit notes are common, along with vanilla and gentle spice from the casks. Some expressions also show deeper dried fruit character depending on the maturation.
