A brief History
Nc'nean, Highland Region, Scotland. Founded in 2017.
Nc’nean Distillery sits on the remote Morvern peninsula on Scotland’s west coast, looking out across the Sound of Mull. It’s a young distillery — production started in 2017 — but it has quickly become one of the most talked-about modern Scotch producers.
The name Nc’nean comes from Neachneohain, a Gaelic spirit of nature and independence. That idea runs through everything the distillery does. Nc’nean was designed from the start to operate with sustainability in mind. The distillery runs entirely on renewable energy, uses organic Scottish barley, and bottles its whisky in fully recyclable glass made from recycled material.
Founder Annabel Thomas set out to build a modern Scotch whisky brand that focused on flavour while reducing environmental impact. The distillery’s style reflects that thinking — clean, fruit-driven whisky that highlights fermentation and cask maturation rather than peat smoke.
