Everything you need to know about Strathisla Distillery

A brief History
Strathisla, Speyside Region, Scotland. Founded in 1786.
Strathisla Distillery sits in the town of Keith in Speyside, and it’s one of the most recognisable distilleries in Scotland. Founded in 1786, it’s often described as the oldest continuously operating distillery in the Highlands.
If you’ve ever seen photos of classic Scotch distilleries — stone buildings, pagoda roofs, a courtyard that looks almost too neat — there’s a good chance you were looking at Strathisla. It has that traditional look, and it’s backed up by a long history.
While it does produce single malt whisky, Strathisla is best known as the heart of Chivas Regal blends. Its spirit forms a key part of those blends, which is why the distillery has always focused on consistency and balance rather than chasing attention as a standalone brand.
That said, when you do find a bottle of Strathisla on its own, it gives a clear picture of classic Speyside whisky.

Strathisla produces a smooth and balanced Speyside spirit. You’ll usually notice orchard fruit like apple and pear, combined with honey sweetness and a soft malt base.
There’s a gentle vanilla note from the cask, but nothing too heavy. It’s not a bold or aggressive whisky — it’s more about roundness and consistency, which is exactly what makes it work so well in blends.
