A brief History
Strathmill, Speyside Region, Scotland. Founded in 1891.
Strathmill Distillery is based in Keith in Speyside, a town that’s home to several well-known distilleries. What makes Strathmill slightly different is its origin — it didn’t start life as a distillery at all. The site began as a corn mill in the late 1800s, known as Glenisla-Glenlivet, before being converted into a distillery in 1891.
That background still shows in parts of the layout, and even the name “Strathmill” hints at its past.
From early on, the distillery was built to supply whisky for blends rather than to stand out on its own. Today, it remains an important part of the J&B blended Scotch portfolio, which is why you don’t often see many official single malt releases.
It’s a classic example of a Speyside workhorse — consistent, reliable, and mostly working behind the scenes.
