Torabhaig Distillery sits on the Isle of Skye, off Scotland’s west coast, and it’s one of the newest Scotch distilleries to gain serious attention. Officially opened in 2017, Torabhaig is only the second licensed distillery on Skye, joining its much older island neighbour. That alone makes it interesting.
But this isn’t a light, easy Highland style. Torabhaig is all about peat and coastal influence. From the start, the team committed to producing a smoky island single malt, aiming to build a long-term house style rather than chasing trends.
Because it’s young, most releases so far carry no age statement. That can worry some drinkers. In this case, it shouldn’t. The spirit is structured, smoky, and surprisingly balanced for its age. For UK whisky drinkers who enjoy Islay-style peat but want to explore something different, Torabhaig offers smoke with a Skye accent — coastal, mineral, and slightly more restrained than some southern island giants.
