Single Cask Whisky
Single cask whisky refers to Scotch whisky drawn from an individual cask, with each bottling defined by its own cask number, age, and ABV. This category includes distillery and independent bottlings from regions such as Speyside and Islay, often released for collectors, private buyers, and specialist retail purchase.

Buyers Information
Where Single Cask Whisky Is Typically Purchased and Collected
Single cask whisky is commonly purchased through specialist retailers and private allocations, often as individual releases with fixed bottle counts. Within the wider Scotch Whisky range, these bottles are selected for their defined cask identity and are frequently acquired for collections, gifting, or direct consumption from a specific release.
Single Cask Whisky Types and Release Characteristics
- Single malt, blended malt, blended Scotch, or grain whisky
- Age-stated (e.g. 12, 15, 18, 25 years) or no-age-statement
- Cask maturation: ex-bourbon, ex-sherry, wine cask, port pipe, virgin oak, or multiple
- Standard ABV (40–46%) or cask strength (typically 50%+)
- Individual cask releases identified by cask number, with no blending across multiple barrels
- Bottlings from both distilleries and independent bottlers such as Gordon & MacPhail and Signatory
- Frequently bottled at cask strength, non-chill filtered, and with natural colour
Single cask releases differ from standard distillery bottlings in that each batch is not standardised for consistency. Instead, they represent the character of a single ageing cask at the point of bottling. Availability is limited by the yield of that cask, and once sold out, the release cannot be replicated.
