Taiwanese Whisky

We supply a limited selection of Taiwanese whisky not to be missed by any Scotch-loving connoisseur. Many distributors take inspiration from Scotland, using traditional methods with local ingredients.

Our Taiwanese whisky range is matured in ex-bourbon, oak and sherry casks for several years. They are then tested by experts before being bottled in an intriguing array of themes. Of all the whiskies we stock, Taiwan showcases their culture the most.

Whisky From Taiwan

Whisky from Taiwan has a distinctive sweet taste, unlike its East Asian counterparts. Every sip is smooth, bursting with different flavours. From tropical fruits and honey to spicy undertones, Taiwanese whisky is one of a kind.

We recommend pairing whisky from Taiwan with seasoned prawns, seared scallops or smoked salmon to bring out the sweet flavours. However, a less contrasting match of fresh and dried fruits ensures you savour the flavour.

What is Taiwanese whisky?

Taiwanese Whisky has not long been around but has since gained popularity and is known for its diverse range of flavours. Kavalan is Taiwan's most famous whisky brand, it was released back in 2008 and has since won multiple awards. One of these being the World's Best Whisky Award in 2021.

How is Taiwanese whisky made?

Taiwan’s warmer climate makes their whisky mature at a faster rate, taking 4 to 6 years, compared to 15 to 25 years for many Scottish whiskies. Although the ageing is faster, Kavalan loses more whisky through evaporation, known as the "angel's share." While Scotch typically loses about 2% during ageing, Kavalan loses up to 12%.

What is the history of Taiwanese whisky?

A key event in the history of Taiwanese whisky was the abolishment of the state monopoly on alcoholic beverages in 2002. The King Car Group introduced Taiwan’s first private distillery in 2005. The first Kavalan whisky, the Classic Single Malt, was released in 2008.

In a short time, Taiwanese whisky has become a popular choice for enthusiasts.
