Irish Whiskey

While we are sure you have indulged in Ireland’s finest whiskey, Jameson, you may be unaware of their other distilleries. If you are a fan of prominent Irish whiskey, we highly recommend trying Teeling or Waterford next. After all, each bottle is quite different from the other.

Our Irish whiskey range is aged mostly in oak, ex-bourbon and sherry casks, but the country is no stranger to experimentation. Each barrel is tested by connoisseurs looking for the freshest flavour and aroma, and is then bottled and distributed.

 Best Irish Whiskey

There is no dispute that the best Irish whiskey is Jameson for its citrus, herbal and spicy blend. However, we encourage you to try the country’s other greatest distilled spirits, such as Green Spot and the Irishman. These spirits boast a fruity first sip, gently becoming vanilla, biscuits, nuts and oak towards the end.

The strangest whiskey deserves an even stranger food pairing. We recommend trying BBQ, ribs and pulled pork with sweeter whiskies. Whereas, a classic burger and fries works well with malt spirits. Either way, the best Irish whiskey awaits you.

What are the different types of Irish whiskey?

There are four main types of traditional Irish whiskey, which include single grain, blended, single malt and single pot still. Single pot still is a distinctive and traditional Irish whiskey style. It’s produced by triple distilling a minimum mixture of 30% malted and 30% unmalted barley. This creates a silky texture and a spiciness known as "pot still character".

How is Irish whiskey different from Scotch whisky or Bourbon?

Both Irish whiskey and Scotch whisky are distinctly different from bourbon, but there are some key differences between Irish and Scotch whisky. Many Scotch whiskies are known for their smoky peat flavour, while Irish whiskey is rarely peated. However, Bourbon is renowned for its sweater notes and is made from at least 51% corn grain.

What are some popular Irish whiskey brands?

Popular Irish whiskey brands such as Jamesons, Redbreast and Bushmills are enjoyed globally. All three have long histories in Irish whiskey production, with Bushmills claiming to be the oldest licensed whiskey distillery in the world from 1608.
