Malt Whisky

We offer an excellent selection of malt whisky aged up to 30 years. While this iconic spirit was invented in the UK, it soon became popular across the world. Be it a traditional English whisky or an unusual Japanese dram, we ensure the perfect spirit for your needs.

Malt whisky is typically made from a single grain, such as barley. This gives it a distinctive peaty flavour that grows stronger the longer it is aged. It was first introduced in Scotland in 1494, when Friar John Cor of Lindores Abbey in Fife was commissioned by the king. Discover a bottle worthy of the king from our selection.

Single Malt Whisky

Single malt whisky is renowned for its bitter, medicinal taste. However, you can find hints of dried fruits, sweet flavours from oak barrels, spices, nuts and herbs. With this mixture, every sip is a new, rich experience.

To truly complement and balance the flavour profile of single malt whisky, we recommend an appetiser of blue cheese. Indulge in smoked meats or luxurious seafood for your main course. Lastly, add a contrasting sweet apple pie or crème brulee for dessert.

What makes a whisky a 'single malt'?

To be classed as a ‘single malt’ whisky should meet three requirements. First, the whisky should be produced from 100% malted barley. The whisky should also be distilled using pot stills at a single distillery and must be aged for at least three years in oak casks.

What is the difference between malt whisky and grain whisky?

Both malt whisky and grain whisky are named after what they are made of, which is what makes them different. Malt Whisky is only distilled using malted barley. Whereas, grain whisky can be made from a variety of grains, such as barley, rye, wheat or corn. This creates different flavor profiles and characteristics between the two types of whisky.

What is malting and why is it important?

Malting is the first step in making whisky and is important because it activates enzymes that convert the starch in barley into sugar. This sugar is then used to make alcohol, for instance a single malt whisky.
